On October 6, the BOT Van Phong 1 Thermal Power Plant project (Ninh Phuoc commune, Ninh Hoa town, Khanh Hoa) officially broke ground after 12 years of waiting. Attending were Mr. Nguyen Tan Tuan – Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council; Nguyen Dac Tai – Permanent Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee and leaders of related departments, agencies.
Van Phong 1 BOT Thermal Power Plant is invested by Sumitomo Corporation (Japan) with a total capital of 2.58 billion USD. As planned, both units with a total capacity of 1,320MW will be completed construction and put into commercial operation in 2023. Each year, the plant is expected to supply to the national grid system of about 9 billion. kWh. This power is transmitted through the 500kV Van Phong – Vinh Tan line, contributing to solving the power shortage in the southern region.
One of the main contractors is Doosan Heavy Industries & Corporation.
